Pine ConePine cones are popular decorations during the holiday season.  Here are some interesting facts about pine cones and an easy and fun pine cone craft. 

 



Pine Cone Trivia:
-The longest pine cone is produced by the giant Sugar Pine of California.  Some of the cones get to be over a foot in length.

-The Coulter pine cones are the heaviest in the world, weighing up to ten pounds.

-The smallest cone comes from the Hemlock and is only about an inch long.

-The Pine Tree is the state tree of North Carolina.

-The White Pine Cone and Tassel is the state flower of Maine.

 

 

How to Make a Pine Cone Birdfeeder
Pine Cone Birdfeeder
Materials
:
1 Pine Cone
Peanut Butter
Birdseed
String or twine
Spoon or knife
Paper Plate

1. Tie one end of the string to the top of the pine cone.
2. Pour birdseed on the plate, enough to cover the center of the plate.
3. Use the spoon or knife to scoop the peanut butter and smear it on the pine cone, making sure to push the peanut butter into all the crevasses.
4. Roll the pine cone through the birdseed on the plate so the seed sticks to the pine cone.
5. Hang the pine cone from a sturdy tree branch.
6. Enjoy watching the birds eat their snack
!
