Booklice

Booklice aren’t actual lice, and they feed only on fungi and mold. Sometimes, people find booklice stored in food products where there was high humidity encouraging mold growth.

Booklice are about 1/16” long and range in color from translucent white to gray or brown. During the summer, female booklice produce up to 60 eggs per day, but when the weather cools down they produce fewer eggs.

It takes less than a month for booklice to mature from egg through adulthood.

HABITAT

Booklice live in areas with high humidity such as under wallpaper, in furniture, along the sides of windows, in windowsills and around potted plants.

THE DANGER BOOKLICE POSE TO HUMANS

Booklice aren’t dangerous to people, structures or food. Instead, they’re considered annoying when found in large numbers.
