Your trained and licensed local lawn care professional will carefully assess your lawn to determine what type of disease your grass is carrying and recommend the right course of action.

What Causes Lawn Damaging Diseases?

A common question and one that can be difficult to explain. There are hundreds of disease spores in your lawn at any given time, but most are harmless or can even be beneficial to the health of your lawn. The few that are harmful can spread quickly and damage sections of a lawn.

Grass Types

In order for a disease to become active, it has to have the right environment. There are diseases that can grow in just about every weather condition. Cool weather diseases include Snow Mold and Leaf Spot. Warm weather diseases include Red Thread and Dollar Spot and hot weather include Brown Patch, Summer Patch and Necrotic Ring Spot.

Watering and Mowing Practices

While some diseases require a control application to prevent development or stop growth, many diseases can be controlled by adjusting cultural practices like mowing higher or changing watering times.
Best practices for reducing the risk of lawn damaging diseases:

  • Water your lawn during the morning, never at night
  • Mow your grass at a high setting like 3.5 inches - 4 inches
  • Aerate and overseed your lawn in the fall
